The downside, of course, is that everyday mind, with filters back in place, may dismiss the experiences as hallucinatory, forgetting that the filtered interpretation is also hallucinatory."

Oh YEAH!! One of the biggest shocks I have had after I got online in about 2004, and quickly sought out psychedelic forums/communities where I thought all there would be of the same mind as me, was to find--especially unnervingly with many of the mods at these places (hmmmm)--a mindset which seems to cling and be an apologist for scientific materialism.
MY first psychedelic experiences were when I was 15, and these involved the undoing of the years-damage via schooling and culture to my sense of the magical quality of nature. So see where I am coming from. Yet I have had to deal with psychedelically-experienced people (some but not all--but the most vociferous) who tend to claim that psychedelic cause 'hallucination' and seem BLIND to the cultural propaganda all round they are subject to which as you say causes us to hallucinate an objectified world and much trust in its cult of scientism.

BRAVO! I am so inspired by your essay.
